‘Bachelorette’ Ep 5 Blog Recap

ANDI DORFMANThis week’s episode of “The Bachelorette” was filled with plenty of drama! From fights, accusations of racism, and the canceling of a cocktail party this episode had it all!

The shows journey for love around the world continued with a trip to Marseilles, France. Which is a huge step up from their trip to Connecticut last week. We didn’t have to wait long to find out who would be getting the first one-on-one date out of the USA of the season. Josh M received the first date card, it was written entirely in French so he had no idea what it said or had any idea of what he and Andi would be doing on their date. These two have great chemistry together physically, it seems they can’t keep their hands off each other when they are together. However, they don’t seem to talk openly about things as much as Andi does with some of the other men. In this date we did learn that Josh, like Andi, was cheated on and he was hurt by it. As if the nonstop kissing didn’t give it away, Josh received a rose at the end of his date.

For the group date in France, Andi gathered the group of guys to learn to be come mimes! Some of the guys on the date like Marquel and JJ seemed to really get into this date and were having a great time. On the other hand, Nick wasn’t having the best time. He was not afraid to let the rest of the group know it either. Nick was very vocal about his feelings about group dates. The French public didn’t seem to care for this date either. As the men were performing their routine the public made snarky faces and there were even crying babies!

During this episode we learn that during the first rose ceremony, Marquel and Ron (two African-American suitors on the show) were quick to receive their roses. After their names were called, Andrew had leaned over to JJ and told him that “of course she’d give them to the blacky’s.” Which is a comment that shouldn’t be made in general let alone on reality television. JJ lets Marquel know that this happened and he is obviously hurt. The fun loving guy of the season’s entire mood changes, because he doesn’t want to be known as the “black guy”. He would like to be seen as everyone else. Ultimately Marquel confronts Andrew on the matter and Andrew denies it to the bone that he ever said that, so it’s unlikely that we’ll ever know the full story.

The last one-on-one in France was awarded to Bryan. Bryan coming straight off his basketball group date from last week, a date that was tailor-made for him struggled on this date. As we saw last week he and Andi are very cute together and get along well, however, during this date it didn’t seem like Bryan was very into the cooking date itself or if he wasn’t into Andi. He didn’t make much conversation and when it he did it was awkward. In the end he did redeem himself because at the end of the date Andi gave him a rose.

The shocker of the episode was Andi cancelled the rose ceremony cocktail party. She stated she knew whom she wanted to send home and so she did just that. Marquel, Andrew, and Patrick were sent packing from France and will not get closer to finding love on the show.
